Bringing to life some colourful characters from South Australian history
From 2013 to 2017, Ron prepared weekly audio vignettes about South Australian characters and places for ABC radio, offering tips and advice about tourism experiences across the state.
While at ABC Collinswood, he was a regular visitor to what’s lovingly referred to as The Tardis - the studio booth used for his regular interviews with regional presenters. Ron’s Off the Beaten Track segments were broadcast across the entire South Australian ABC regional radio network.
In the making of these segments, Ron used his imagination – and occasionally his faithful mutt, Tex — to bring to life some colourful characters from South Australian history. Click below to listen to Bob the Railway Dog, an audio vignette in which Tex barks new life into an old dog with plenty of tricks.

Waterfall Gully Walk with Craig Cock
We’ve also included another audio segment about the popular Waterfall Gully walk as a tribute to the late Craig Cock – Ron’s former personal trainer and mate, who’s sadly missed.
